Layers of trust against AI scams

Voice, Video, Images, and Texts Can Be Faked. Private Codewords Can't.

Trust Onion gives your family, friends, or club three rotating private codewords that stop AI scams cold. If they can't say the words, it's not them.

Why Trust Onion

We have parents, grandparents, and siblings we don't want to be scammed.

We built a private way to verify identity in seconds, no technical skills required.

Features

Core features that keep your circle safe

Every feature was built for one thing: giving you a fast, private way to verify the people you love are who they say they are.

New · Text Checker

Not sure about a text? Paste it and find out

The Text Message Checker helps you spot warning signs in any message you're unsure about. It runs entirely on your phone: works offline, needs no login, and nothing you paste is stored or sent anywhere.

  1. 1 Paste any text you're unsure about into the checker.
  2. 2 Press return. The report appears instantly, no internet needed.
  3. 3 Read the report. A caution level (never a "nothing to worry about"), each red flag it spotted with the exact snippet, why scammers use it, and what to do instead. It names who the message claims to be from and how to verify directly: look up the official number yourself, call family on the number you already have, and never use a number or link from the text. It also reminds you what no tool can check, like whether the sender is spoofed or where a link really leads.

What it catches

  • Fake delivery & toll notices
  • Bank & "account suspended" alerts
  • "This is my new number" texts
  • Gift card, Zelle & crypto requests
  • One-time code requests
  • Suspicious links
  • Wrong-number openers
  • Job & investment pitches

Set up a private family circle in under a minute. Invite only the people you trust with a one-tap code or QR scan, and keep parents, grandparents, and kids protected from AI scams; no one else gets in.

iMessage

Right inside iMessage

Trust Onion codewords shared inside an iMessage conversation

Send your codewords in under five seconds without ever leaving iMessage. The native app lives right inside your conversations, so verifying a loved one is as quick as sending a text.

Stay Safe

Already on a suspicious call or text?

The Call and Text Checker in the app helps you figure out what's happening and get your family involved. No one has to handle a scary call or text alone.

Scam Check

Tap what's happening on your call. Money requests, pressure to keep secrets, someone claiming to be your bank. The app tells you how risky it is and what to watch for.

Reach Your Family

Pick someone from your family circle and send a one-tap alert asking them to call you right now. They see your note and know you need them.

Coming soon: add phone numbers to your family circle. When a call feels wrong, tap a name and the app dials them directly.

Benefits

Make trust easy, simplify your circle's safety

Trust Onion generates three private codewords that only your group can see — family, friends, or teammates. They change every 60 seconds, so even if someone overhears them, they've already expired.

Codewords only your circle sees

Trust Onion generates three rotating codewords visible only to your group. When someone calls or texts claiming to be someone you trust, ask for the words. No words, no trust.

See them, believe them

Request a proofie anytime. A timestamped, location verified selfie to prove its them. You see their face and know it's safe.

No tech knowledge needed

Designed for the least technical of us, Trust Onion helps ensure identity verification with just one click.

Add layers as threats grow

Start with codewords. Add photo verification. Upgrade to location proof. Each layer peels back more certainty, like an onion.

How It Works

Three steps. That's it.

Trust Onion fits into the way your family, friends, or club already communicate. No new habits, no complicated setup.

Open the app

Download Trust Onion and join your family group with a QR code scan. The app generates rotating codewords that only your group can see. No accounts, no passwords.

Use it when it matters

Urgent call from your kid? Ask for the word. They say it, you know it's them. They can't, you hang up and call them directly.

Add a photo for extra proof

For higher-stakes moments, request a live selfie. The photo is timestamped and checked so you know it was taken right now, not pulled from social media.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions, clear answers

Everything you need to know before protecting your family, friends, or club.

Is Trust Onion free?

Yes. Trust Onion is free to download and use. Family codewords, group verification, and Proofies are all included at no cost. No credit card, no trial period, no paywall.

Why is it free?

Because we built it to protect our own families. Trust Onion is completely free, with no paid plan, no credit card, and no paywall. Every feature is included: unlimited family members, rotating family codewords, the iMessage extension, verifying any Proofie, and creating up to 3 Proofies a month. We made the tool that keeps our parents safe, and now we share it with you.

Is it easy enough for my parents or grandparents to use?

100% Yes. Trust Onion was designed to pass the "mom test." Download the app, scan a QR code to join your family group, and you can see the codewords immediately. No account creation required for basic use. No technical knowledge needed. If someone in your family can open an app, they can use Trust Onion with confidence.

How do family codewords stop a scam call or text?

When someone calls or texts claiming to be a family member, you ask: "What are the codewords?" Trust Onion generates shared codewords that rotate every 60 seconds, visible only to your family group on the Trust Onion app. A real family member opens the app and reads them back, only you and them have access to those words. A scammer with a cloned voice has nothing to say. The call ends in three seconds. It's the same strategy BBC Future highlighted in August 2026 — read our take on the secret codewords that scammers hate.

Can Trust Onion check if a text message is a scam?

Yes. Paste any suspicious text into the app's Text Message Checker and press return. It helps you spot warning signs: a caution level, the specific red flags it found, who the message claims to be from, and how to verify directly with a number you look up yourself. It never declares a message trustworthy, because no tool can confirm a sender or where a link leads. It runs entirely on your phone, works offline, needs no login, and nothing you paste is stored or sent anywhere.

Can scammers steal or guess the codewords?

No. Codewords are calculated locally on each device with no server involved, nothing exists outside your phone. They're never transmitted over the internet, so there's nothing to intercept. It works even in airplane mode. They rotate automatically, so even if one were overheard, it expires before anyone could use it.

Does Trust Onion collect my location or personal data?

No. Trust Onion is built with privacy at its core. Codewords are generated on your device and never touch our servers. We don't track your location unless you choose to include it in a Proofie, and we don't ingest that data either, just pass it to your recipient. We don't sell data, serve ads, or share your information with third parties.

For Brands

The same protection, wearing your brand.

Insurers, sports teams, credit unions, and utilities can re-skin Trust Onion for the people they serve — the same proven verification using rotating codewords, wearing your colors, your logo, and your voice. Internal teams can point it inward too, as secure two-factor verification for high-stakes Slack, Teams, and email requests.
